Grace Buckler, CIPP/E, CIPP/G, CIPP/US, CIPM, CRISC, CISA, CISSP, PMP
Grace Buckler is an internationally recognized privacy expert, founder and principal of THE PRIVACY ADVOCATE, a global privacy & information security consulting firm. Buckler advises and supports public and private-sector organizations on privacy governance, management strategy, compliance readiness, and privacy risk management efforts across business areas and functions. Prior to founding THE PRIVACY ADVOCATE, Buckler was Principal Consultant, Cybersecurity Performance Oversight Manager, Technology Manager, Sr. Security Engineer, and Sr. Information Assurance Engineer in the technology management space and cybersecurity practices of both U.S. and global organizations. She is a faculty member of the world’s largest privacy association, the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), where she has also served as Vice Chair on the Certification Advisory Board.
Buckler has served overseas as consultant with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and the Office of Inspector General in Japan. She has managed and consulted on enterprise risk management, network security, physical security, information security, information assurance, and privacy. Buckler has earned recognitions and an award for her contributions as the principal consultant for the United States Secret Service. She has served as consultant and principal consultant for the Department of Health & Human Services, Freddie Mac, Defense Logistics Agency, Transportation Security Administration, Department of Justice, Defense Security Services, Department of Education, Department of Homeland Security, among others.
She pioneered the privacy program for the Army Research Laboratory and has been instrumental in overseeing activities related to developing and implementing privacy programs, policies, assessments, operational life-cycles, communication, training, and compliance with federal, state, local, international laws and regulations. Her advisory experience has involved privacy laws and regulations, information assurance, information security, financial information services, and privacy with specialties in risk management and compliance assessments, audits, technical communication, strategic planning, program development and sustainability.
Buckler has worked with a number of organizations in areas of information concern such as Sarbanes-Oxley Act, North American Energy Reliability Corporation, European Union Data Protection Directive, Federal Information Management Act, Privacy Act, General Data Protection Regulation, among other compliance concerns.
A Society for Technical Communication’s international award recipient, Buckler also received numerous recognitions by the Chief Information Officer and the Secretary of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for her contributions often broadcast on C-SPAN.
Buckler is an industry thought leader and a veteran global speaker on data protection and privacy concerns. She’s an active member and speaker for ISACA and ISSA International. She has contributed to numerous industry publications including course books. Her recent article on security and privacy collaboration was selected as the cover article for the Information Systems Security Association’s February issue of ISSA Journal in 2017. She has been featured in numerous journals including IAPP’s Privacy Perspectives. Buckler has also been featured by industry organizations including ISACA International and ISSA International as global speaker on privacy concerns.
Buckler has achieved industry-certified status in various management, data protection, privacy, and information security disciplines including European data protection, U.S. government privacy, U.S. private sector privacy, enterprise risk management, information systems audit, information system security, and project management. Buckler was recently selected to join IAPP’s elite group of privacy pros designated Information Privacy Fellows. When she is not protecting privacy rights she’s engaged in other global community efforts.
